Canine-inspired colorful paintings and home goods of dogs in various playful poses and whimsical settings adorn her booth, creating a visual spectacle that seamlessly blends the worlds of art and dogs. Engaging with the audience on a more personal level, Sara has found inspiration in the unique stories shared by dog owners, and explains,
“I have been selling my art at dog shows for years. When I first started, I didn't understand anything about the breed standard. Some of my drawings were of people's pets. Although cute, they wouldn't sell to the dog show community. After an owner/handler commented, "Oh, Honey!" while reviewing a 'pet' rendering, I realized it was time to redraw many breeds. I now draw from photos I personally take from shows and encourage critique before adding new art to the line. My mother, also an artist, once asked if it offended me to get negative feedback. I assured her that it did not. I would not have much of a business if I drove from show to show, attempting to sell subpar depictions of the breeds. I am very grateful to all those that have supported my venture."
These encounters have influenced her art, allowing her to create pieces that resonate not only with the whimsy she is known for but also with the profound connections people share with their pets. Sara has even expanded her line of artwork to create unique dog show trophies. As her exciting dog breed art continues to find new avenues for expression, dog shows have become the unexpected stage for the harmonious blend of artistry, joy, and the profound love we share with our furry friends.
